Circus
Kurt’s eyes shone brightly as they reflected the images from the tv. His tail swished gently from side to side, a gesture that normally annoyed Logan to no end, but he’d let it slip this time. He had diverted his look from the screen to Kurt’s face a while ago, and although he had to admit the trapeze act currently showing was very impressive, the sight of his best friend’s joy was far more enthralling. Kurt hadn’t been himself for quite some time now, ever since those bigots beat him up his almost childlike enthusiasm was gone and replaced by a more brooding personality. A personality, Logan thought, that was way too much like his own and not enough like the real Kurt.
“It’s all about the timing, you know. From the moment you let go of the bar to the moment the catcher is in position. It’s got to be perfect.” Kurt whispered softly as if not to disturb the performers, his eyes still glued to the screen.
Logan glanced at the screen; a man swung back and forth hanging from his feet. “Hng. Must help to have an extra limb.”
Kurt chuckled softly and bitterly looked at his tail. “Both a blessing and a curse.”
“Yeah.”
They were silent for a while, both looking at the trapeze artists. “Wanna come to the circus with me?”
“Was?” Kurt turned surprised eyes to Logan.
“Heather. She gets tickets every year to this circus in Montreal.” He shrugged. “Maybe I can arrange something.”
“Montreal? Cirque du Soleil?”
“I guess.”
“But you hate crowds.” Kurt’s grin faltered.
Logan sighed. Trust Kurt to be all overprotective. “Look, elf. I’ll be fine. So, wanna come?”
“Ja! Of course!” The grin was back and so was the twinkle in yellow eyes that Logan had missed these last two months.
“Deal.” Logan stood up and stretched languidly. “Gonna grab some grub, you comin’?”
“No, danke. I rather stay here and watch some more.”
“Sure.”
Just as Logan was about to close the door behind him he stole another glance at Kurt. Tail swishing, grinning from ear to ear and twinkling, shiny eyes.
Yup, the elf was back. |
